Sept 2024 – present
I am an MSc student researching how Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (Inuit knowledge) could provide an alternative to wildlife co-management in Nunavut. This project is supervised by Dr. Vivian Nguyen and Dr. Dominique Henri and is based out of Kinngait, Nunavut. Before beginning my MSc, I conducted research on how Indigenous knowledges and consent were reflected in fisheries research and management while completing my BA in Indigenous Studies and Environmental Studies at Carleton. An avid hunter, angler, and trapper, I live in Northern Ontario with my Metis husband where we live a subsistence lifestyle and are building a homestead on 100 acres so we can become self-sufficient. My parents’ families both have connections to the Mi’kmaq Nation (my dad’s family has ties to Bear River First Nation, while my mom’s family ties are less known).
