Steven Alexander is a Science Advisor with Ecosystems and Oceans Science at Fisheries and Oceans Canada. In this role he provides support and guidance to the Science Sector with regards to Reconciliation, including shifting towards models of knowledge co-production. Steve originally joined the department in 2017 as a Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellow. Prior to this, Steve was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow dually affiliated with the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center at the University of Maryland and the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University. As an environmental social scientist his research focuses on community-based conservation and natural resource management, environmental governance, and the human dimensions of environmental change. As an interdisciplinary educator Steve spent a decade working with NGOs and universities across North America teaching and developing both curriculum and programs.
